Russia entered the top five countries with the highest rate of HIV infection

At the end of 2021, Russia was among the top five countries with the highest rate of HIV infection. According to data provided by the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), Russia accounts for 3.9% of the 1.5 million new infections in the world. According to this indicator, only African countries are ahead of us, including Mozambique (6.5%) and Nigeria (4.9%).

UNAIDS estimates are in line with data from the Ministry of Health, which announced more than 50,000 new infections in 2021. The department recalled: every eleventh Russian with HIV infection does not know about his diagnosis, in Europe - every eighth. This allows us to talk about a hidden epidemic of HIV infection in the European region.
