Ruling coalition retains majority in Czech Senate

The ruling coalition parties most likely retained their majority in the upper house of the Czech parliament, the Senate. On Friday-Saturday, the second round of elections of one-third of its members took place.

According to preliminary data, the vote brought great success to the parties of the ruling coalition. Thus, they strengthened their positions in the upper house of parliament. Thus, 24 seats went to candidates from the parties of the ruling coalition and independents. Eight of these seats were won by the Civic Democratic Party, led by Prime Minister Petr Fiala, according to a report by Czech TV.

The Czech Senate has 81 members. The renewal system is arranged in such a way that one third (27 mandates) of the membership is re-elected every 6 years.

Milos Vystrcil also retained his seat in the Senate, who can now remain as chairman of the upper house for another 2 years, that is, the country's second official after the president.
