In the first week of 2023, just over 22 thousand cases of coronavirus were detected in Russia. This is 40% lower compared to the previous week, according to site Rospotrebnadzor.

The agency said the COVID-19 situation “remains fairly stable.” At the same time, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, “instructed to continue control at checkpoints across the state border in connection with changed approaches to the movement of citizens from the PRC”.

Also, over the past week, the incidence of influenza and SARS has decreased by 52%. The total number of cases was more than 580 thousand people. Ms. Popova said that “the appeals of citizens to medical institutions on holidays were minimal,” but still “the situation remains difficult,” so the regions were instructed “not to reduce control.”

Rospotrebnadzor announced about the start of the influenza and COVID-19 season in November 2022. In December, restrictive measures began to be returned in some regions of the Russian Federation, in particular, in Moscow, Rospotrebnadzor advised wearing masks in public places. In early January, the incidence of coronavirus in Russia began to decline.
