Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may hold a high-level meeting today to discuss the Russian payment system MIR, about this reported Reuters, citing a source.

Erdogan will hold a high-level meeting on Friday to discuss Russia’s MIR payment system and possible Western sanctions.

It is noted that the meeting may also be affected by the “agreement with Russia” and the general economic situation.

There have been problems with the Mir card in Turkey this week. The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) reported on reducing the number of ATMs and shops that can accept Mir cards.

In particular, two Turkish banks Isbank and Denizbank suspended use of these payment cards this week due to the threat of US sanctions. On September 15, the Ministry of Finance of the country published a document expressing its readiness to impose sanctions for supporting the use of the Mir payment system outside of Russia. The United States also imposed sanctions on the director of the Mir operator – the National Payment Card System (NSPK) Vladimir Komlev and the chairman of the board of the National Settlement Depository (NSD) Viktor Zhidkov.
