Reuters: EC proposes capping electricity price at €180 per MWh

The European Commission intends to limit the price of electricity for generators that do not run on gas at €180 per 1 MWh. The draft proposal will be published tomorrow, 14 September. According to Reuters, the measure will apply to wind, nuclear, biomass, solar, lignite and some hydroelectric power plants. According to the EC, this restriction will help consumers cope with rising electricity prices. The relevant document will be published by the EC tomorrow, 14 September.
Discussions on marginal electricity prices in the EU began against the backdrop of the energy crisis. In the EC declared about the intention to introduce a price ceiling for Russian gas. By information newspaper The Financial Times, at least ten countries are in favor of a general restriction of gas prices. Some fear that in response to the imposition of a ceiling on Russian gas prices, Moscow will completely cut off supplies to the EU. At a meeting of EU energy ministers on September 9 for a common gas price ceiling spoke 15 countries, but it was not possible to agree on this measure. The EC promised in September introduce a proposal for a general price cap.
