"Red and White Invasion": 10 years ago, Moscow "Spartak" arrived in Belgorod

What was the most spectacular match in the history of Belgorod football, according to witnesses of the Russian Cup match in 2012

Can't get tickets

On September 26, exactly 10 years ago, at the central stadium of Belgorod, the local Salyut in the 1/16 final match of the Russian Cup hosted the multiple national football champion - the capital's Spartak. This day went down in the history of Belgorod football forever.

More than two thousand fans from different regions of Russia came to support Muscovites from the capital. In this regard, unprecedented security measures were introduced in the city - more than one and a half thousand police officers guarded public order. Due to the repair of one of the stands of the stadium, only six thousand spectators could get to the game. It was not possible to get tickets at the box office - they were all distributed according to the collective applications of enterprises and fan associations, which caused a storm of indignation among Belgorod football fans. The excitement for the arrival of Spartak was unprecedented, some Belgorod residents tried to find the coveted ticket in Moscow - to no avail.

Holiday for the fans

Before the start of the cup match, the Red-Whites staged a real procession around the city. A column of fans of the Moscow club crossed Bogdan Khmelnitsky Avenue not along the underground passage, but directly along the avenue itself, lighting flares and chanting chants along the way.

Belgorod fans, who were lucky enough to attend the historic match for the city, told how the cup match turned out. Among them was the author of this material, then a 14-year-old boy, Ilya, with his uncle.

“They tried to come to the stadium in advance, right after work, although the start was scheduled for 20:00. The game became a real holiday for all the lucky ones who were able to get to the stadium that day. Unprecedented excitement, bright genuine emotions and intrigue persisted throughout the entire 90 minutes of the cup match. Each Belgorod citizen sincerely believed in the success of his favorite team, although he understood that the multiple champion of Russia, a participant in the Champions League, had come to visit, ”the author of the material recalls that day.

Evening ceased to be languid

These hopes and dreams were destined to come true when the home team opened the scoring already in the 22nd minute - the Colombian Jairo Mosquera ran alone from his half of the field, "screwed" between the central defenders and outplayed the Spartak goalkeeper, running to celebrate the goal to the Spartak podium. As the commentator of that match Vladimir Stognienko noted (and the live broadcast was conducted on the federal channel "Sport"), after the goal of the "Salyutov" the football evening "definitely ceased to be languid." Unfortunately, the Belgorod team failed to maintain a minimal advantage - accurate shots from Spartak Zhano Ananidze and Demi de Zeuva with an interval of twenty minutes allowed Muscovites to break into the next stage of the tournament, winning 2:1.

After the meeting, the fans did not want to leave the stadium for a long time - many tried to take pictures with the Spartak players and get their autographs. Some rushed to the airport to see off the team. And the fans themselves, who were leaving the railway station on a branded train, blew off the “stop crane” several times. After the game, the Belgorod team actively shared their impressions. The match did not leave anyone indifferent.

Forward, "Salute Belgorod"!

Now Belgorod are playing in the second division and hope to reach at least the First League, in which they have not played for almost a decade. In the Russian Cup for 20 years, football players have brought teams from the Premier League more than once, but they managed to overcome the 1/16 final stage only once - in the fall of 2013. Then the Salutovites left overboard the Moscow Dynamo, led by Alexander Kokorin.

A couple of years later, the Belgorod club ceased to exist, reborn under a different name - Energomash. But he also existed on the football map for only a couple of seasons. Currently, the flagship of local football is Salyut Belgorod.
