By 2030, a plan for the phased transition of digital television to video content platforms may be formed and approved in Russia. About it informed RBC with reference to the working version of the Strategy for the development of the communications industry in Russia in 2024-2035.

In addition, the document proposes to stop analog broadcasting in most of Russia, and use the released frequencies to expand coverage of broadband Internet access.

The strategy began to be developed on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Representatives of business and industry experts take part in the work. According to information RBCthe strategy will have to be provided to the government by June 1, but the deadlines can be shifted.

According to the text of the document, by 2030, 80% of the TV and radio audience will become active users of video content platforms and services that provide access to Full HD and 4K high-definition video, interactive TV, video on demand, access to the archive, etc. By this time, also 98% of households that are located in settlements with a population of 10,000 or more will have access to the Internet.

The authors of the strategy specify that the transition from digital TV to video content platforms will lead to a reduction in government spending on television signal distribution. The amount is not given. In small towns, Internet can be provided using wireless broadband access technologies.

According to Dmitry Chernyshenko, a spokesman for Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, the strategy is planned to be discussed at the next session on May 27, which will present “corrections to sections based on earlier comments”. At the same time, he stressed that now there are no plans to abandon digital terrestrial TV.

In March Chernyshenko informedthat the strategy for the development of the communications industry until 2035 will be presented no later than June-July 2023. Its main goal will be to ensure technological sovereignty in the field of communications, the Deputy Prime Minister's office explained.
