The trade turnover between Russia and China by the end of 2022 will be a record, it is expected that its figures will exceed $200 billion. This statement was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the SCO summit.

“I am convinced that at the end of the year we will reach new record levels, and in the near future, as agreed, we will increase the annual trade turnover to $200 billion or more,” said the Russian leader (quote according to RIA Novosti).

Putin also spoke about the results of past years. So, in 2021, the trade turnover exceeded $140 billion, an increase of 35%. According to him, in the first seven months of 2022, the volume of mutual trade increased by another 25%.

Announcing the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, presidential aide Yury Ushakov declaredthat from January to July 2022, the trade turnover between Russia and China amounted to $93 billion. “This gives reason to expect a new record in bilateral trade,” he said. The Kremlin representative noted that at the meeting the leaders of the two countries intend to discuss the military conflict in Ukraine, the activities of the SCO, as well as the development of trade and economic cooperation.

In addition to Xi Jinping, Putin also intends to meet on the sidelines of the SCO on September 15-16 with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and heads of other states.
