Putin: It's deadly for Russia to weaken its sovereignty

For Russia, it is deadly dangerous even for a while to weaken its sovereignty and abandon national interests, President Vladimir Putin said at a concert in honor of the celebration of the 1160th anniversary of the birth of Russian statehood.

“For 1160 years, we have firmly learned that it is mortally dangerous for Russia to weaken its sovereignty even for a while, to abandon national interests. During such periods, the very existence of Russia was threatened, and such mistakes will not be expected from us again. We will not succumb to blackmail and intimidation,” the President emphasized (quote according to RIA Novosti).

According to him, despite the brutal invasions of enemies, fragmentation and the tragedy of civil strife that took place in Russian history, dark periods have always been replaced by stages of revival.

In June, the president said that in today’s world, states can be either sovereign or colonies—there is no intermediate state.

According to Putin, in order to claim any kind of leadership, any country must ensure its sovereignty. “There are no intermediate components, an intermediate state: either a country is sovereign, or a colony, no matter how the colonies are called,” he said.
