Putin: I was surprised by the results of the referendums in the new territories

Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the situation in the annexed territories will be stabilized. According to him, there would be no military conflict if it were not for the attempts of Ukraine and Western countries to break history. He said that the results of the referendum in Donbass not only pleased him, but also surprised him.

“Frankly speaking, the results of the referendum, which I was told about, not only pleased me, but also surprised me. Still, in such difficult conditions, people lived, and continue to live. And such a result, I assure you, and I think that the observers were convinced of this, there was no desire to correct something, clean something up, or add something. We decided for ourselves, and I decided for myself: it will be as people want. As people speak out, so we will do it,” Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with laureates and finalists of the Teacher of the Year competition.

“The result, of course, is more than convincing, and it is absolutely transparent, this result is not subject to any doubt,” the Russian president noted.

Referendums on the entry of the DPR and LPR, as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine into Russia were held from September 23 to 27. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as the leaders of European countries, consider the referendums illegitimate, and Russia's actions - occupation. Vladimir Zelensky said: "Another attempt to annex Ukrainian territory will mean that we have nothing to talk about with the President of Russia."
