Putin declared the high importance of Tokayev’s visit to Russia

The arrival of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to Russia was his first international visit after being re-elected, which makes the meeting especially important, declared Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Today’s visit is of particular importance: this is the first visit after the re-election of Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich as the President of Kazakhstan. In this sense, it has, of course, a symbolic meaning, it emphasizes the special nature of our relations, we highly appreciate it,” Putin said.

Tokayev, in turn, agreed that there is “a certain symbolism” in this, transmits “RIA News”. Russia has been and remains a strategic partner of Kazakhstan, he added.

During the talks, the parties are expected to discuss issues of further development of Russian-Kazakh relations and prospects for interaction within the framework of integration associations in the Eurasian space. The Russian President also noted the growth in trade between Russia and Kazakhstan in 2021 and 2022. and strengthening cooperation in both traditional and high-tech areas.

Tokayev arrived in Moscow on an official visit yesterday, November 27. As noted in the press service of the President of Kazakhstan, the visit is being held at the invitation of Putin.

A day earlier, on November 26, Tokayev took the oath and officially took office as President of Kazakhstan. Early presidential elections in the republic were held on November 20, Tokayev won them, gaining 81.31% of the vote. He took office as President of Kazakhstan for the second time.

Tokayev announced early presidential elections on September 1. Then he proposed to increase the term of office of the head of state from six years (now) to seven, eliminating the possibility of re-election. According to him, these elections will launch the electoral cycle, which will lead to a radical reset of the entire political system.
