Putin announced the need to develop measures to resolve conflicts between the CIS countries

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that tragic events are taking place not only in Ukraine, conflicts also arise between other countries of the post-Soviet space. According to him, it is necessary to develop measures to resolve the current situation. Mr. Putin also noted the need to develop Russia’s cooperation with the CIS countries.

“In addition to Ukraine, where truly tragic events are taking place, unfortunately, conflicts sometimes arise between other close states of the post-Soviet space. This, of course, requires the development of measures to resolve them,” the head of state said during his speech at the informal CIS summit in St. Petersburg.

Vladimir Putin called for the development of economic cooperation between the CIS countries. He noted that in 2021, Russia’s trade with the CIS countries increased by more than 30%, to $96 billion. According to him, in order to develop such a trend, an intensive transition to national currencies in settlements with the CIS countries is necessary. The head of state said that this would lead to the strengthening of the financial sovereignty of countries, the development of domestic capital markets, and the deepening of regional economic integration.

Also, Mr. Putin announced the preparation of a package of documents for the CIS summit in Astana, which will be held on October 14. He noted that Kazakhstan and Russia are planning to develop a trade and investment partnership. Vladimir Putin supported the proposal of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, to create an international organization under the auspices of the CIS to support and develop the Russian language.

In September, armed clashes took place in some CIS countries. On the night of September 13, clashes resumed on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. On October 2, a meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan was held in Geneva to discuss a peace treaty. Today, October 7, Armenia reported shelling by the Azerbaijani army.

Also on September 14, armed clashes began on the border of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The reason was the disagreement of the parties over the definition of territorial boundaries. September 19 countries signed peace protocol.
