Despite the stable situation in the Russian labor market, the number of people at risk of being fired from their jobs is growing, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting on economic issues.

“Now there are almost 234,000 employees on so-called downtime, on forced leave or part-time work, almost twice as many as at the beginning of the year. It is clear that on a national scale these are still small numbers, but for specific industries, for enterprises and settlements, serious difficulties arise,” quotes President’s press service of the Kremlin.

Putin instructed the government to “pay due attention” to such local problems and find effective solutions. At the same time, he called the situation on the labor market “stable”. “Even more than stable: the unemployment rate is at historical lows – in May-July it was only 3.9%,” the head of state concluded.

Putin already mentioned unemployment rate in the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF-2022). According to him, Russia is coping with the financial, economic and technological aggression of the West, as evidenced by the slowdown in inflation and the historically low unemployment rate of below 4%. Nevertheless, there are still problems in certain industries, regions and a number of enterprises.

He pointed to the need for targeted support for problematic sectors of the domestic economy. “It is important to continue to make prompt decisions together with business and launch effective targeted support mechanisms,” the head of state concluded.
