Putin and Scholz discussed Ukraine and the “grain deal”

Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held an hour and a half telephone conversation, during which the parties discussed the situation in Ukraine.

“Vladimir Putin, in particular, drew the attention of the Federal Chancellor to the blatant violations of international humanitarian law by the Ukrainian side, the ongoing shelling of the cities of Donbass, as a result of which civilians are killed and civilian infrastructure is deliberately damaged,” – says in the message of the press service of the Kremlin.

Putin also told Scholz about the ongoing Ukrainian military strikes on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which create real risks of a large-scale catastrophe. In addition, the head of the Russian state reminded the German chancellor of the package nature of the "grain deal", which also provides for the unhindered export of Russian food. There is still no progress on this issue, the President stressed. Russia is ready to supply more grain to the markets, as well as to transfer fertilizer blocked in European ports to countries in need for free, Putin added.

Russia has been and remains a reliable supplier of energy resources, Putin stressed. The reduction in supplies is due to interruptions in the operation of Nord Stream 1, which is caused by anti-Russian sanctions that prevent its maintenance. Against the background of the refusal to commission Nord Stream 2, as well as cutting off gas supplies via routes through Ukraine and Poland, attempts to accuse Russia of disrupting Europe's energy supply "look very cynical," the Russian president added.

AT message According to the results of the conversation, the press service of the German government says that the chancellor called on the Russian president "to find a diplomatic solution as soon as possible, based on a ceasefire, the complete withdrawal of Russian troops and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine."

Scholz also urged Putin to ensure the safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, following the recommendations of the International Atomic Safety Agency. The German side also stressed the importance of continuing the implementation of the so-called. "grain deal" necessary to resolve the food crisis in the world.
