It is expected that the demining of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol will be completed by the summer of 2024, Denis Pushilin, acting head of the DPR, said at an expanded meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

“At the moment, we have begun demining the territory of Azovstal and plan to complete this work by the summer of next year,” he said (quote according to TASS).

The territory of the plant is about 10 square meters. km, said Pushilin. He also noted the complexity of the site and added that there is “a lot, a lot” of work to be done. According to him, the plant already has “strategic investors” and plans for further development.

Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. The next day, the Russian military began to fight in Mariupol. Already on April 21, the city completely passed under the control of the Russian army, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported. However, part of the Ukrainian fighters remained blocked on the territory of Azovstal. On May 20, Shoigu announced the completion of the operation and the complete liberation of the plant.

Mariupol is located in the DPR. On September 30, 2022, the DPR, along with the LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, became part of Russia. Martial law has been introduced in the regions since October 19.
