The Russian military are fighting in the quarters of Artemovsk, which until recently were under the control of the armed forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced by the acting head of the DPR Denis Pushilin.

“Fighting is already going on somewhere on the outskirts, and somewhere in those quarters that quite recently were still held by the enemy,” he said (quote according to TASS).

Pushilin noted the role of the PMC “Wagner” in the promotion in the city, and also called the fighting in the village “quite tough.”

January 23, acting head of the LPR declaredthat Russian forces are advancing on all sections of the line of contact in the region. He noted the importance of the heights around Kleshcheevka, which at that time, Pushilin claimed, Wagner had almost taken control of. According to him, the capture of the heights around Kleshcheevka in the south of Artemivsk provides certain opportunities, in particular, for operational control of the supply routes of Ukrainian troops.

The day before, January 24, he informedthat the Armed Forces of Ukraine had only one road to Artemovsk, all other routes for the Ukrainian army were cut off.

On January 12, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported on the release of Soledar. After that, the defense department began to regularly report on the transfer of settlements in the DPR under Russian control. So, on January 18, Sol was liberated, on January 20 – Kleshcheevka, on January 21 – Mesopotamia, and on January 23 – Krasnopolie.

Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of Russia, and on October 19 martial law was introduced in the regions.
