Pro TV: Romanian barge with 860 tons of wheat sank in Odessa region

A barge owned by Romania sank in the Reni port in the Odessa region, it was carrying 860 tons of wheat, informed on Sunday the Romanian TV channel Pro TV.

According to the channel, the barge with grain sank on the morning of February 4. According to the owner of the vessel, this happened during loading operations: water began to flow into the engine room. Five Romanian sailors escaped, but they were unable to prevent the barge from sinking.

The barge, as noted, belongs to a Romanian company from the city of Constanta, which is located on the Black Sea coast.

On July 22, 2022, representatives of Turkey and the UN signed separate agreements with representatives of Russia and Ukraine on the export of Ukrainian grain, as well as on assistance in the export of Russian grain and fertilizers. As Moscow and Ankara later noted, only a small part of Ukrainian grain goes to the poorest countries.

At the end of January it became known about complaints countries of Eastern Europe on an overabundance of Ukrainian grain. Soaring deliveries to EU markets could lead to serious difficulties for European farmers, especially in countries neighboring Ukraine, according to a report prepared by Poland and also presented on behalf of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
