Pope Francis said he was ready to meet with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky. He has not yet visited Kyiv, because now it is impossible to go to Moscow.

“I am open to meeting with both presidents of Ukraine and Russia. I am always open for a meeting. If I didn’t go to Kyiv, it’s only because it’s impossible to go to Moscow at the moment,” he said at a press conference on the way from South Sudan.

The pontiff recalled that he visited the Russian embassy immediately after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine. According to him, he wanted to see if there was an opportunity to go to Moscow and talk to Putin.

Francis also noted that he was concerned about other conflicts in the world. He pointed out that wars have been going on for years in Serbia, Yemen, Myanmar, and many conflict centers in his native Latin America.
