Polish authorities urged citizens of the country not to take potassium iodide tablets amid rumors of a radiation hazard due to events in Ukraine.

“Military actions and attacks on the ZNPP do not pose an immediate threat to the people of Poland. The life and health of the people of Poland are not in danger,” said Lukasz Mlynarkiewicz, head of the State Atomic Energy Agency of Poland.

He added that taking stable iodine preparations without a doctor’s prescription can be hazardous to health.

Earlier, the Polish Interior Ministry said that potassium iodide tablets were handed over to the fire department. At the same time, they assured that it was a standard procedure.
