One of the mechanized divisions of the Polish Armed Forces, located near the border with the Kaliningrad region, will receive American HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems by the end of the year. This was announced by the Minister of National Defense of the Republic Mariusz Blashak, transmits “RIA News”.

“As early as this year, American HIMARS will enter service with the 16th mechanized division,” he said.

Poland ordered these units back in 2019, the minister stressed. In total, the United States approved the delivery of 500 HIMATS units to the Polish army.

Poland last November start construction of a barrier on the border with the Kaliningrad region, the length of the land section of which is 203.3 km. Blaschak then explained this decision by the fact that the Kaliningrad airport became open for flights from the Middle East and Africa. In December, the Polish Border Guard signed an agreement with a contractor for the construction of an electronic fence on the border with Russia in the amount of $82 million, informed TASS.
