Pink Floyd sold music rights to Sony Corporation – Kommersant
British rock band Pink Floyd has agreed to sell the rights to its catalog of recordings to Japanese record company Sony. Writes about this Financial Times (FT) citing sources. According to the publication, the deal is worth $400 million, for which Sony will transfer the rights to a huge catalog of Pink Floyd recordings, including such hits as “Wish You Were Here” and “Money.” The FT reports that the deal also includes the use of the band members' names and likenesses, meaning Sony will be able to produce films or TV series about them.
In 2022, Pink Floyd already tried to sell the rights to recordings of their songs for $500 million. Among the potential buyers were the companies Hipgnosis, Warner Music and BMG. However, in the end the deal did not take place. The reasons for this were the high price, disagreements among the group members, as well as controversial statements one of the founders of Pink Floyd, Roger Waters.
