Peskov: Ukraine’s security can only be guaranteed by its leadership

Security guarantees for their country can only be given by the leadership of Ukraine, said the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

“Security guarantees for Ukraine can only be given by the leadership of Ukraine, which will understand the hopelessness of further processes,” he said, answering the question of what Russia would do if Ukraine were given security guarantees in a new interpretation. In the document, Kyiv emphasized the need for investment in the defense industrial base, as well as the supply of weapons and joint exercises with the countries of the European Union and NATO. Special attention in the draft is given to anti-Russian sanctions. The guarantors of Ukraine’s security, according to the document, will be the EU countries, the USA, Great Britain, Australia, Canada and Turkey.

As Andriy Yermak, the head of Zelensky’s office, noted, security guarantees are not an alternative to Ukraine’s entry into NATO. According to him, these measures should ensure the security of the country until it is accepted into the alliance.

Formerly Peskov pointed outthat the published document once again confirms the need for a special operation in Ukraine, since the country leaves its entry into NATO as its benchmark. He stressed that Moscow’s reaction would be negative if the draft security guarantees were signed.
