Peskov said there were no plans to change the status of the NVO and introduce martial law

There are no plans to change the status of a special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine and introduce martial law in Russia. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“There were no decisions on this matter,” answered Peskov to a TASS journalist in response to a relevant question.

Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. In March, the Russian leader said that the decision to conduct a NMD was linked to an “absolutely real threat” to Russia arising from Ukraine’s desire to join NATO and statements by the Ukrainian authorities about the possibility of acquiring nuclear weapons.

On September 21, Putin addressed the citizens of Russia. President once again indicated to the aggressive policy of the West. According to him, Western countries seek to “weaken, divide and destroy” Russia. He also noted that at present Russia is not opposed to Ukraine, but to the collective West. According to the president, the West is not satisfied with a peaceful solution to the conflict, with its filing by Kyiv, the negotiations were disrupted.

For this reason, Putin announced about partial mobilization in the country. Only citizens who are in the reserve are subject to conscription, and above all those who served in the ranks of the Armed Forces, have certain military registration specialties and relevant experience. Later, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stressed that the mobilization would not affect students and conscripts.

Peskov also informedthat in the near future the government of the Russian Federation will determine the categories of citizens who will be able to receive a deferment from partial mobilization. Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin proposed to discuss the issue of participation in the SVO of the deputies of the State Duma, who could be in demand. According to the current legislation, deputies of the State Duma and members of the Federation Council have a deferment from conscription for military service for mobilization.
