Russian President Vladimir Putin did not originally plan to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in response to a question from journalists about whether Moscow really did not receive an invitation to the Queen’s funeral.

Peskov recalled that Putin expressed condolences on the death of the monarch, but “the president had no other plans to participate in memorial events from the very beginning.”

On the eve it became known that the delegations of Russia, Belarus and Myanmar were not invited to the funeral of Elizabeth II, about which informed Guardian, citing sources. Most countries received an invitation to the head of state and one more guest. US President Joe Biden accepted London’s invitation to attend the Queen’s funeral. He will be accompanied by First Lady Jill Biden.

Elizabeth II died on September 8th. The Queen’s funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey on 19 September. The official part of the ceremony will be a funeral service at Westminster Abbey in London. After that, the Queen will be buried in Windsor, in the chapel of St. George, where her husband Prince Philip, parents and sister are buried.
