The negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine is in demand to achieve the goals of the special operation, but now there are no prerequisites for it, said Dmitry Peskov, presidential spokesman.

“The negotiation process, of course, is in demand. Demanded to achieve our goals. But, as we have already said, we do not see any prerequisites for the negotiation process. Repeatedly, President Putin also explained that actually a few months ago the Ukrainian side withdrew from the negotiation process,” he said.

Peskov also commented on the statements of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, which called on Russia and Ukraine to resume negotiations. According to him, Moscow values relations with Beijing, and the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping was “very meaningful”, but declined to comment in more detail.

The day before, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi declaredthat the PRC is not going to remain inactive regarding the conflict in Ukraine, but is not going to contribute to its further escalation. He said the Chinese side supports the EU and major European countries to continue to actively mediate and make every effort to achieve peace.

Since the beginning of the special operation, Russia and Ukraine have held negotiations several times. The first three face-to-face meetings took place in Belarus in February-March, and the fourth round of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue was held on March 29 in Istanbul. Later the process was frozen. According to Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko, Ukraine actually withdrew from the negotiations.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that his country would not hold talks with Russia, and other high-ranking Ukrainian politicians made similar statements. Later, Zelensky announced that in the event of a referendum, Ukraine would refuse to negotiate with Russia.
