Pentagon: US will send Ukraine a more modern and deadly version of the Abrams tank

The United States will send the M1A2 Abrams tank to Ukraine, which has significantly improved capabilities compared to the earlier M1A1 model, writes CNN.

Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh confirmed that the M1A2 will go to the Ukrainians. She added that the United States "does not have excess stocks of these tanks in American warehouses" and it would take "months" to transfer the tanks to Ukraine.

The M1A2 is a significant upgrade to the older M1A1, mainly due to the fact that the A2 runs on a digital system as opposed to the analog A1 system.

This difference is comparable to between a rotary phone and the iPhone that you have in your hands, ”explained retired Army General Robert Abrams.

US officials announced this week that 31 Abrams tanks will be sent to Ukraine after days of disputes between the US and its allies. Officials have yet to say which tank variant they will choose, and Army Purchasing Chief Doug Bush told reporters on Tuesday that a decision is still under discussion.
