Parents do not need to wear hats on their children with the onset of the first cold weather. The benefits of hats in terms of protection against colds are overestimated, the comfort of the child is much more important, he claims in an interview with the publication Gazeta.ru pediatrician Ekaterina Kiryushina.

“The most popular fears of parents: the child will get cold ears, get sick, catch meningitis are very far from medicine,” the doctor emphasizes. “The cause of SARS is in the viruses that people transmit to each other during contact, just like many bacterial infections.” According to the pediatrician, such complications of SARS as otitis media, pneumonia, meningitis and others are unpredictable and therefore cannot be prevented by warming the child.

“But it is in our power to vaccinate the child, which will reduce the risk of their occurrence and reduce the severity of the course,” Kiryushina noted.

The pediatrician advised that if the child takes off his hat or jacket and does not feel discomfort, do not “fight” for warming. “It’s not worth the time and nerves,” she says. It is much more useful to teach a child to listen to the signals of his body and trust him.
