Pavel Durov questioned the security of WhatsApp


Telegram founder Pavel Durov said that hackers could have accessed WhatsApp users' smartphone data. The reason Mr. Durov called problems with the security of the messenger. He believes that WhatsApp should be "stay away, it's a surveillance tool."

“All a hacker had to do to gain access to your phone was send you a malicious video or start a WhatsApp video call with you. The exact same WhatsApp security issue was discovered in 2018, then in 2019 and another one in 2020, in 2017. Prior to 2016, WhatsApp had no encryption at all.”— wrote Pavel Durov.

He believes that the annual problems of the messenger show that “for sure there is already a new breach in the security system. Such problems are hardly accidental - they are laid down by backdoors.

WhatsApp reported a security issue last week. The messenger previously had errors due to which user data fell into the public domain. In 2020, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' smartphone was hacked with a malicious WhatsApp message. For security problems, the messenger was criticized by Elon Musk and Pavel Durov.
