Patriarch Kirill blessed the bishops, clergy and believers to pray for the health of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Patriarchy of the Russian Orthodox Church approved the texts for prayers for the “health of the Head of the Russian State.” Believers were advised to pray not only on October 7, the president’s birthday, but also on October 8, when Sergius of Radonezh is celebrated.

“October 7 this year. Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin turns 70 years old. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia calls on all archpastors, pastors, monastics and laity to offer fervent prayer at home on this day for the health of the Head of State of Russia,” says in a letter sent by the patriarchate to bishops in Russia.

The next day, October 8, on the day of the feast of St. Sergius of Radonezh, the patriarch called for “offering a special petition for the health of the President of Russia at the special litany of the Divine Liturgy.”
