The development of online trading stimulates the interest of Russians in acquiring a ready-made business in the form of pick-up points (POIs). In January-August, the demand for them on bulletin boards increased six times year on year. Experts warn that in large cities, competition among pickup point operators is already high, and ready-made businesses in this area are often sold at inflated prices.

According to the results of January-August 2022, interest in buying a ready-made business in the form of a pick-up point in Russia increased six times compared to the same period in 2021, Avito calculated. The site does not disclose absolute numbers. Ilya Dudkovsky, head of the "Ready-made business and franchising" and "Equipment for business" categories at Avito, says that demand is growing both for already operating pickup points and for turnkey opening services. In the latter case, the buyer does not register, search for premises and its equipment, but pays consultants for a ready-made business, he points out.

Among the Russian regions, the highest demand for the purchase of pickup points was recorded in the Rostov region, where the figure increased by more than 20 times year on year. Interest increased 19 times in the Crimea, 15 times in the Krasnodar Territory and Tatarstan, and ten times in the Stavropol Territory. In the Moscow region, interest in ready-made pickup points grew seven times, and in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region - by 210%, specify in Avito.

The number of advertisements for the sale of pickup points is also growing, but at a slower pace than the demand for such a business increases. According to Avito, in January-August, the number of advertisements for the sale of pickup points at the site doubled. The average cost of a pickup point put up for sale is 450,000 rubles, says Ilya Dudkovsky.

According to Mr. Dudkovsky, interest in buying ready-made pickup points is mainly stimulated by the active development of online trading, as well as the ease of doing such a business and the predictability of income. According to the Association of Internet Trade Companies, the turnover of the Russian e-commerce market in the first half of 2022 grew by 43% year-on-year, to 2.3 trillion rubles, of which 2.2 trillion rubles. went to the domestic market. Mikhail Burmistrov, General Director of Infoline-Analytics, considers the business model of pickup points operating under several brands to be the most profitable.

Wildberries say that more than 90% of the site's deliveries are made at the pickup point. The Wildberries network has about 25 thousand objects, of which 13 thousand are partner ones. In January-July 2022, the turnover of Wildberries partner pickup points in Russia grew by 595% year-on-year, a company representative notes. Yandex Market has a pickup point network of more than 8,000 points, and most of those who want to open an object turn to the company, as it helps with the selection of locations and promotion, says a representative of the site.

According to Mikhail Burmistrov, in large cities the opportunities for opening new pickup points are almost exhausted due to high competition, so there is an interest in reselling an already operating business. Franshiza.ru expert Anna Rozhdestvenskaya notes that a ready-made business is often sold at an inflated cost and does not include start-up support, which is available when buying a franchise. But buying a working point allows you to immediately assess the coverage and future turnover, she adds.

Avito predicts that further growth in online sales will retain interest in the business in the form of pickup points in the next two to three years. According to Mikhail Burmistrov, the growth rate of the online trading market slowed down in the second quarter of 2022 amid the crisis and shortages in a number of categories. But the expert maintains an optimistic forecast for the second half of the year. In Wildberries, the regions of the Far East, as well as Moscow and St. Petersburg, where the number of online purchases is still actively growing, are considered the most promising locations for new pickup points.
