“The number of borrowers with three loans or more exceeded 13 million people (+2.2 million people over 12 months). They account for more than half of the debt on retail loans,” the message emphasizes.

The debt of borrowers who have a bank loan and a loan from microfinance organizations increased by 852 billion rubles over the year. The amount of debt among citizens who first apply for a bank loan and then take out a loan from an MFO also increased by more than 50% over 12 months.

The Central Bank also drew attention to the increase in the average number of loans from borrowers who received an unsecured consumer loan: as of July 1, 2024, this figure was 3.4 loans versus 2.8 loans at the beginning of July 2023.

The average debt of borrowers with one loan was 452 thousand rubles, with two - 795 thousand rubles, with three or more - 1.4 million rubles.

As of July 1, 2024, the number of retail borrowers in banks and microfinance organizations amounted to 50.3 million people. Growth over 12 months amounted to 3.6 million people.

Previously, the Bank of Russia, together with participants in the credit market and the Ministry of Finance, developed a bill on the comprehensive settlement of debts of individuals. The draft law deals with individuals who have several loans from various banks or microfinance organizations and are in a difficult life situation.
