On the day of Pushkin, the lists of "lyceum students" were announced

A day before the ceremony, experts on the Web guessed two of the three names of the best poets

On June 6, the capital announced the names of writers who are a cross-section of the current state of young literature. For several years in a row, MK has been tracking the final ceremony of the Pushkin Prize - and 2023 was no exception.

The list of "lyceum students" each year is six people: three prose writers and three poets, if you do not take into account special prizes and nominations. And if we take into account that there is a problem with awards in Russia: “Debut” has sunk into oblivion in 2016, now “Lyceum” in its age category remains the only professional award institution.

With prosaic “adult” awards, it’s a little easier: there is Yasnaya Polyana and Big Book, in the shorts and longs of which debutants are freely allowed (Rodion Marinichev in the list of finalists of BK-2023 is a vivid example of this). But "purely poetic" awards in our country very quickly become "geological layers" - this was the case with the projects "Poet" and "Poetry". Therefore, it is not easy to share the optimism of the Lyceum's expert, the poet Irina Ermakova, who is pleased with the "literary and geographical diversity" of our current generation of writers. Because it is not clear what this generation is waiting for next.

It was Ermakova, together with the editor-in-chief of the Literaturnaya Gazeta Maxim Zamshev, who had the honor of honoring the third-place winner in the poetry nomination, Varvara Zabortseva. “Pushkin, the Russian language, Red Square and young people met today,” summed up Maxim Adolfovich.

The second prize in poetry was presented by Novy Mir Deputy Editor-in-Chief Pavel Kryuchkov and Director of the Department of State Support for Periodical Press and Book Industry Vladimir Grigoriev.

I was going to say thank you and leave. That would be the most honest thing,” the young laureate Sergey Skuratovsky effectively threw into the hall.

And now about the absolute winner. “I always tell my students: it’s not you who writes the poem, it’s the poem that writes you,” said Vladimir Tolstoy, presidential adviser on culture, introducing 1st-place poet Stepan Samarin. “This man writes real poetry,” Tolstoy assured the public.

In prose, the top three looks like this: Daria Mesropova - third place, Olga Shiltsova - second place and Vladimir Khokhlov - first.

By the way, on Monday evening, a surprisingly accurate forecast about the poetic results of the Lyceum from the editor of the Voymega book series Alexander Pereverzin appeared on the Web. He named (in alphabetical order, without distribution of seats) three names: Zabortseva, Marya Kupriyanova and Skuratovsky. Guessed, as we see, two out of three.

“I was helped by intuition and, if you like, experience. The composition of the jury, the events taking place in the country and the world that affect the literary process, and, well, the poems of the finalists. When you analyze all this, you get the result, ”Pereverzin shared the secret of the“ gift of foresight ”with Moskovsky Komsomolets.
