On “Gosuslugi” you can again order a biometric passport

The possibility of ordering a biometric passport through the Gosuslugi portal has been restored. In February, this service was temporarily suspended due to a shortage of chips, but now users can again apply for a foreign passport with an electronic storage medium. It is reported by TASS.
Previously, when trying to apply for a new sample of a foreign passport, users were faced with a message about the temporary unavailability of this service. However, the application process is now available again.
According to information from the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Irina Volk, starting from June 1, the agency resumes accepting applications for the issuance of foreign passports with an electronic storage medium. Earlier, TASS already announced Goznak’s intention to resume the production of biometric passports in response to new applications.
In addition to the portal “Gosuslugi”, an application for a passport can also be submitted directly to the territorial body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia or through a multifunctional center for the provision of state and municipal services.
The suspension of applications for the issuance of a new sample of foreign passports occurred on February 2 due to increased demand for microcircuits needed to be embedded in a passport blank. At that time, Goznak announced the need to reconfigure the equipment of the microcircuit manufacturer Mikron to meet the growing demand for these products.
