NYT: Western weapons will not help Ukraine due to long delivery times

Columnist Lara Jakes, in an article for The New York Times, noted that widely publicized promises by Western countries to provide Ukraine with large-scale military assistance, including tanks, would be fulfilled only in a few months. The hopes of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to use this military equipment in the near future are unlikely to come true.

"There is one problem: they will appear on the battlefield too late," Jakes said, pointing out that Russia has already begun to launch a wide-ranging offensive in eastern Ukraine.

"This is the case with most Western tanks, combat vehicles and anti-aircraft missiles," the author of the article emphasizes.

Jakes argues that it's not just the logistics and the need to prepare this equipment, but also the training of the Ukrainian military, which could take several months or even a year.

In the near future, Ukraine can only receive American Bradley combat vehicles. In doing so, Jakes quotes retired German general Heinrich Brauss as saying that much time was wasted trying to wrest the initiative from Russia.
