Apple is in talks with component suppliers for AirPods and Beats headphones to ramp up production in India, reports Nikkei. The American corporation is trying to diversify the supply chain of its products in order to avoid a repetition of the situation during the COVID-19 pandemic in the future, when almost all of the company’s production, concentrated in China, was closed. In addition, the company takes into account the growing tensions between the US and China, the agency writes.

Yes, Apple already launched in India, the production of the latest model of its iPhone 14 smartphones. Production takes place at the factory of Foxconn Technology, an Apple partner, in the suburbs of Chennai. The iPhone SE, 12 and 13 models were previously assembled there. Foxconn hopes to start assembling Beats and AirPods in India as early as next year. Luxshare Precision Industry and its subsidiaries, which already produce AirPods in Vietnam and China, are also planning to start manufacturing headphones in India. True, according to sources, in the case of Luxshare, this process may be delayed, since the company is primarily focused on working in Vietnam.

In general, AirPods began to be mass-produced in Vietnam back in 2019 as Apple’s response to the trade war between the US and China. Most of the production capacity for the production of Beats was also transferred there, to Vietnam, last year, according to agency sources.
