NATO says they are not at war with Russia

NATO is not at war with Russia, despite its assistance to Ukraine, said Admiral Rob Bauer, chairman of the alliance’s military committee.

“NATO is not at war with Russia. I must state this very clearly. If Russia attacked one of our member states, it would be very clear, and we try to make it clear to Russia as clearly as possible, that we will defend every inch of our ally’s territory,” he said in an interview with ERR.

He noted that the conflict will begin only if it is necessary to protect the allied territory, until that moment NATO is not at war with Russia.

He also said that the alliance had long considered the Russian Federation as a partner, and not as a threat, despite the existing differences. However, NATO now believes that Russia “poses a direct threat”, as was formulated in the latest strategic concept in Madrid.

The admiral indicated that the alliance would continue to defend Ukraine “for as long as necessary.”
