Named the approximate number of potentially habitable planets in the galaxy

The University of Florida puts the number of potentially habitable planets in the Milky Way at hundreds of millions.

Astronomers from the University of Florida compared information about known planets orbiting other stars and put forward an assumption about their total number in the Milky Way.

The authors of the article in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences recalled that one of the important conditions for habitability for the planet is the presence of liquid water. If a space object is too far from its star, the water on it freezes; if it is too close, it evaporates. Also, astrophysicists said that some planets have oval, not round orbits, and come too close to the surface of their stars at one stage or another of the path. The orbits of the planets, of which there are several around the star, and not single ones, more often turned out to be round.

According to astrophysicists, a third of the total number of planets is potentially habitable, that is, in total, their number in the Milky Way can reach hundreds of millions.
