Musk talks about new Neuralink implant
Musk Announces New Neuralink Vision Implant
American billionaire Elon Musk said that the Neuralink visual implant will be able to provide vision even to people who were born blind. In the future, the device will be able to perceive not only the visible spectrum, but also other ranges.
"Neuralink's Blindsight implant will allow vision even in those who have lost both eyes and the optic nerve, provided the visual cortex remains intact. This also applies to people who were blind from birth," Musk wrote on his X social media account.
He noted that the image quality would initially be low, reminiscent of the graphics on Atari gaming systems, but that the device would eventually be able to capture infrared and ultraviolet spectra, as well as radar wavelengths.
Musk added that the device could resemble a futuristic device used by the blind character Geordi La Forge from the TV series "Star Trek."
According to Neuralink, the implant has already received breakthrough development status from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
