Most MPs Will Support Ban on Migrants Bringing Their Families – Kommersant
The majority of State Duma deputies, regardless of faction, will support a draft law banning labor migrants working in Russia from bringing their families with them, said Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the lower house of parliament. According to him, work on such a bill is already underway.
"This year, somewhere in July, we adopted fairly strict regulations, according to which all violators are expelled and then banned from entering our country. We believe that employers should be held more accountable in this regard. At the same time, a person who has come to work himself cannot bring his family members with him," Mr. Volodin said in an interview with the Russia-24 TV channel.
On September 5, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated about the need to introduce a law banning labor migrants from bringing their families to Russia. At the same time, he proposed forcing the children of migrants who study in Russian schools to learn Russian.
There are currently about 630,000 illegal migrants in Russia, the Interior Ministry calculated. In order to encourage them to leave the country, the government plans to launch a registry of controlled persons from 2025.
