Moscow City Court liquidated the trade union of journalists

On September 14, the Moscow City Court decided to liquidate the public organization Trade Union of Journalists and Mass Media Workers.
The judge supported the motion of the Moscow prosecutor’s office, which pointed out that the trade union systematically violates the norms of Russian legislation, and these “gross violations” cannot be eliminated.
Thus, an employee of the prosecutor’s office stated that the structure of the organization does not meet legal requirements, contributions have not been made since 2019. In addition, members of this organization have been repeatedly prosecuted for participating in mass rallies, in particular in defense of journalist Ivan Safronov, as well as for raising funds for “foreign agents” media.
Lawyers consider the arguments of the prosecutor’s office unfounded, the state body did not present evidence in court and did not give convincing reasons for the liquidation of the trade union.
