Monument to Soviet pilot Valery Chkalov to be demolished in Kyiv

The authorities of Kyiv have decided to dismantle the monument to the Soviet pilot Valery Chkalov installed in the city, said Dmitry Belotserkovets, adviser to the mayor of the Ukrainian capital. He added that the demolition of the monument to Soviet General Nikolai Vatutin is also being discussed.
According to the adviser, the question of the demolition of the monument to Chkalov has already been closed, and the debate continues on Vatutin.
“It was decided to dismantle the monument to Chkalov, the profile expert commission under the Ministry of Culture deprived him of the status of an object of cultural heritage. At the same time, the same commission is doing everything so that the Verkhovna Rada has a monument to Vatutin,” Belotserkovets explained on his page on the social network.
