Russia needs to increase the number of satellites to over 1,000. About it declared Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a strategic session on the development of the rocket and space industry.

According to Mishustin, it is necessary to strengthen work in a number of areas, but first of all, Russia needs to “accelerately increase the number of satellites to more than 1,000.” He specified that the Sphere project will become the basis for these plans.

Mishustin proposes to involve private business in the development of capacities for the serial production of satellites. “And continue, which is very important, the manned program, creating a Russian orbital station,” the Prime Minister added.

Russia’s strategic plans also include support for scientific space and lunar exploration, together with friendly countries.

In October 2022 Vedomosti wrotethat the Sphere project was expanded with one task that was transferred from the Ministry of Digital Development – the creation of the Express-RV space complex with four spacecraft in a highly elliptical orbit. This required an increase in funding for the program. In 2023, 17.7 billion rubles were allocated for the Sphere project, in 2024 – 18.6 billion.

In April, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov toldthat the Russian orbital constellation consists of 192 space satellites. In 2022, 52 of them were launched.
