“Look, she eats something from your pocket”

For many years, the All-Russian Agricultural Fair was held in the pavilions of VDNKh. However, against the background of the SVO, the review of the achievements of the domestic agro-industrial complex moved to the Patriot park, where there are just a few steps from the Animal Husbandry Pavilion to the newly opened mobilization point. The farmers told the MK correspondent that they were not surprised by such a neighborhood: the word “mobilization” now describes not only conscription, but also the situation in many industries. In particular, under the pressure of sanctions, farmers have to quickly solve several important tasks at once.

Inside the pavilion, the head of the Cabinet was met by the best representatives of Russian animal husbandry - superlayers, high-yielding cows, breeding sheep and thoroughbred stallions. The heifer Chukuruk, the cow Kun Oyuuta and their lord, the sire Kharyskhan, who arrogantly looked at everyone who approached the stall, came from Yakutia to the Moscow region. The Yakut national dress flaunted on the horns of Kharyskhan, but the unremarkable black-and-white cow Julie attracted the prime minister's attention. “Why is it written that Julia is a nickname? That's the name!" Mikhail Mishustin was surprised. “No, it’s a nickname,” the head of the Ministry of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev, in turn, was surprised at the question. "And why?" "Because that's what they call it." While the Prime Minister and the Minister were discussing, the cows in the stalls were doing their job, namely chewing grass. And not only. “Look, she is eating something out of your pocket,” Mishustin warned a gaping official and volunteered to feed the animals himself. Fortunately, there was plenty of food suitable for them in the pavilion. And the cows themselves were simply amazingly clean, the maintenance of which was closely monitored by several workers with buckets and mops.

During the inspection of the exhibition, Dmitry Patrushev said that thanks to digitalization, animal husbandry and poultry farming have reached a new level. All information is entered into databases, analyzed, and on this basis, management decisions are made that ensured the growth of milk yield, the increase in the production of meat and eggs. In the next pavilion, the delegations showed samples of domestic agricultural machinery, which, thanks to cooperation with Belarus, successfully overcomes the shortage of components. And at the last point - the achievements of the Russian regions from Kamchatka crabs to Chechen sausage and Tatar meat.

Later, at a conference on food security, Mikhail Mishustin said that almost all the heads of regions with whom he spoke at the exhibition were expecting record or close harvests. The success of the agro-industrial complex, according to him, will allow increasing exports, which are very beneficial for the country. Already today Russia is the first in the world in the production of wheat, the fourth in meat and the fifth in vegetable oils. “We are able not only to provide for ourselves, but also to make a serious contribution to global food security,” the prime minister said, emphasizing that it would be impossible to stabilize the current situation on the world market without Russia's participation. “No matter what barriers unfriendly countries try to set up, the quality and reliability of supplies from Russia are beyond doubt,” Mishustin added. According to him, for 8 months of 2022, the export of agricultural products, despite the sanctions, increased by 16%.

The prime minister called the return of agricultural land into circulation, the expansion of land reclamation, the renewal of fishing vessels, the production of aquaculture, the import substitution of seeds and genetic material in animal husbandry, as well as the development of agrotourism, as promising points for the growth of the agro-industrial complex. He promised that the government will continue to support farmers: the 2023 budget provides for 340 billion rubles for the development of the industry.

When Mishustin left the conference, they started talking about problems. Dmitry Patrushev said that there are difficulties in breeding, in genetics, in the food industry, where “there is a huge amount of foreign equipment, and it does not last forever,” as well as in the provision of agricultural machinery, which has to be sought from countries such as Iran and the United Arab Emirates. “By the way, there are very worthy tractors in Iran,” Patrushev commented. However, the main problem of the industry, in his opinion, is the volatility of the domestic currency. The ruble must be either strong or weak. “And when he walks from 50 to 65 rubles. in a short span, it brings anxiety. Business cannot build a strategy,” the minister lamented.
