Ministry of Transport: Poland’s ban on trucks will not interfere with Russia’s imports and exports

The ban on the passage of Russian and Belarusian heavy trucks to the territory of Poland will not affect the import and export of goods. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Russia.

“A similar ban on Russian and Belarusian road carriers has already been introduced by the EU authorities. The successful experience of implementing the re-hooking / reloading mechanism, introduced as a response in Russia since October 10 last year, allows us to fully ensure the delivery of the required volume and list of goods,” the press service said.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the restrictions will not provoke “congestion at checkpoints and at the entrances to them.” “Poland’s step is more political than practical,” the ministry concluded.

On May 29, the government of the republic published a decree banning the passage of trucks with Russian and Belarusian numbers across the border of Poland. Prior to this, on May 26, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration of Poland submitted a corresponding draft resolution to the government. The explanatory note to the document specified that such a measure was aimed at ensuring the country’s public security.

Vedomosti experts also notedthat the decision of the Polish authorities will not have a critical impact on Russian carriers, but will complicate logistics. The Polish edition of Wprost Biznes wrote that the decision may be a response to a proposal to block the movement of Polish trucks through Russia.

May 23, Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin informedthat the deputies unanimously voted for a ban on the passage of trucks from Poland. The parliament also wants to ban carriers from Poland from refueling at Russian gas stations at local prices, setting the cost of fuel for them at the level of EU prices. According to Volodin, the Poles will lose about 8.5 billion euros of income received at the expense of Russia.
