According to Sky News, an official invitation to the BRICS summit – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – will soon be sent to Russian President Vladimir Putin. At the same time, the Republic of South Africa is obliged to arrest Putin by decision of the International Criminal Court, which issued such an order on March 17, 2023.

Nevertheless, South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor confirmed that Putin would be invited to the summit despite a possible arrest.

Recall that on March 17, 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin became the third sitting head of state and the first permanent member of the UN Security Council to be arrested by the ICC. Before him, the ICC brought charges against Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi.

In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Moscow has never cooperated and will not cooperate with the ICC, stressing that the actions of the court in relation to the Russians are legally null and void.
