MEP Mariani: ICC decision is a propaganda action that has nothing to do with justice

French MEP Thierry Mariani called the decision of the International Criminal Court around the warrant for the “arrest” of Vladimir Putin a propaganda campaign that has nothing to do with justice.

The MEP recalled that the powers of the ICC are not recognized by the three permanent members of the UN Security Council – Russia, China and the United States. Mariani added that the jurisdiction of the ICC also does not take into account a number of other powers, “including India.” In addition, he called absurd the allegations that this resolution could prevent the President of the Russian Federation from traveling abroad.

The day before, the pre-trial chamber of the ICC issued warrants for the “arrest” of Russian President Vladimir Putin and children’s rights commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova, accusing them of “illegal export of children from Ukraine.”

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov called the very formulation of the issue unacceptable – Moscow does not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC. And any of his decisions from the point of view of law are insignificant, he stressed.
