Medvedev warned that the UN could suffer the fate of the League of Nations

The UN will suffer the fate of its predecessor, the League of Nations, if the powers of the permanent members of the UN Security Council are “hacked”, wrote Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev in his Telegram channel.
Medvedev drew attention to the fact that the Americans were in favor of some “compromises in the reform” of the UN Security Council and the refusal to maintain the “status quo”.
“Compromises are different. If we are talking about an attempt to hack into the powers of the permanent members of the Security Council, undertaken by the United States in a zoological anti-Russian frenzy, then here they are tormented to swallow the dust. Otherwise, the UN will suffer the fate of the bankrupt League of Nations,” he wrote.
In June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged expel Russia from the Council itself and the UN General Assembly. In his opinion, this is the only logical way for the UN Charter to work and be respected by all participants.
After that, the representative of the chairman of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, Pauline Kubiak, answered him that such people go exclusively through the Security Council. Russia’s participation in the UN Security Council as a permanent member is spelled out in Article 23 of the Organization’s Charter.
The League of Nations is an international organization founded after the First World War. Existed in the period 1920-1946. The goals of the League of Nations included: disarmament, prevention of hostilities, ensuring collective security, settling disputes between countries through diplomatic negotiations, and improving the quality of life on the planet. It ceased to exist in 1946.
