Medvedev outlined legitimate military targets

Today the question arises whether the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine can be considered NATO's entry into a conflict with Russia and an attack on the country. Despite the NATO countries' denial of their participation in hostilities, "everyone is well aware that everything is different." Such a statement done Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev in his Telegram channel.

“The question of legal military purposes has been treated differently in the history of mankind. He is also perceived differently during the current conflict with the Nazi regime in Ukraine,” he wrote.

Speaking about the customs of war and international conventions, the politician specified what could be considered legitimate military targets. According to Medvedev, they are troops, military equipment of the enemy, as well as objects of military and civilian infrastructure that contribute to the achievement of military goals. In addition, legitimate military targets may include the military-political leadership of the enemy and the troops of other countries that have officially entered into a conflict.

In this regard, Medvedev added, the question arises regarding the status of NATO in the fighting in Ukraine. The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation pointed to the “deliveries of a huge amount of weapons to Ukraine” and asked a rhetorical question about the admissibility of considering legitimate NATO military targets, including troops, equipment, infrastructure and the military-political leadership of the bloc countries.

“The leaders of the NATO countries unanimously sing that their countries and the entire bloc are not at war with Russia. But everyone is well aware that everything is different ... ”Medvedev concluded.

On the eve of December 15, the White House once again stressed that the United States is not at war with Russia. According to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, the supply of Patriot missile systems to Ukraine does not mean Washington's entry into a conflict with Moscow. The White House emphasized that they would continue to provide military support to Kyiv.

Commenting on the dispatch of Patriot complexes to Ukraine, the Russian Embassy in the United States declared about Washington's "provocative step" and warned of possible "unpredictable consequences." In the Kremlin called equipment as legitimate military targets of the Russian Armed Forces, if NATO supplies them to Ukraine.
