Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev called the conditions that Russia sets now, “a warm-up for the requirements of the future.” Thus, in his Telegram channel, he commented statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he will not negotiate with those who issue ultimatums.

“Someone Zelensky said that he would not engage in dialogue with those who put forward ultimatums. The current “ultimatums” are a children’s warm-up for the demands of the future. And he knows them: the total capitulation of the Kyiv regime on Russia’s terms,” Medvedev said.

Earlier, in an interview with CNN, Zelensky said that he was not ready to negotiate with Russia. “They will resort to freezing the conflict, agreements, negotiations, they will become stronger and move forward again. This is their strategy – gradually and very slowly, piece by piece to eat us. <...> I don’t want to play it,” he said. According to him, neither European countries nor Ukraine will start negotiations with Russia as long as the special military operation continues.

The day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recalled Moscow’s readiness to start negotiations with Kyiv on what is happening in Ukraine. He stressed that without early negotiations, the process of concluding a treaty would become increasingly difficult.
