Ukraine, “to be honest,” is part of Russia, but due to geopolitical reasons, Russians and Ukrainians lived “in different apartments.” About it declared Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, answering questions from the media and users of VKontakte.

“Ukraine is generally a part of Russia, to be honest, it is a part of Russia. But due to geopolitical reasons and due to the history of what happened, we put up with the fact that we live in different apartments for a long time. We are forced to reckon with this, with these fictitious borders,” he said.

According to Medvedev, these territories were inhabited by the original Russian population and have always been part of Russia “in the narrow sense of the word – Great Russia.”

Former Russian President Vladimir Putin laid responsibility for the conflict in Ukraine on the Western elites, whose actions led to the coup in 2014. “I want to repeat this: they started the war, and we used force and use it to stop it,” the president stressed. According to the head of state, Russia did its best to solve the problem peacefully and was ready for a constructive dialogue with Western countries.

According to him, the goal of Western countries is to transfer the local conflict in Ukraine into a phase of global confrontation, as well as the strategic defeat of Russia. Putin noted that Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began to protect the country and to eliminate the Nazi threat.
